Mud & Mischief

It's Barbara's fault

I blame her completely.

I just spent over £300 on Sonlight curriculum stuff.

Well, I did say I needed to replace her Ping book...

We're not fooled y'know - can't blame spending on someone else ;0)

I've got a few Waldorfy curriculum books that you're very welcome to peruse too, there's some nice ideas in there, even if you don't *subscribe* to the whole kit and kaboodle.

We got stuck in traffic at Rovers kick out time when we went to look at houses - bloody nightmare - then went straight to being stuck at the level crossing into Rossington.

The particular ones I just bought aren't available on Amazon. However, I have just ordered a load through the MP site.

I've got Donna Simmon's Curriculum Overview for Homeschoolers, which is really approachable, she's very much of the opinion that one shouldn't try to do 'school at home' and that it's better to try to understand what underpins Waldorf ed. and then adapt it to your family's particular needs. I also got her drawing book and have just ordered her Botany mainlesson book (which should hopefully come any day).

In addition I've Eric Fairman's Path of Discovery Vols. 2 - 5 (each vol. is for a particular grade). They're written for teachers working in Waldorf schools, but are a great reference with some lovely maths ideas.

I ordered Nurturing Children & Families from Sarah Baldwin's (the author) site and Free to Learn from SSF publications (I'm taking part in an online book study on this).

*Then* I ordered You Are Your Child's First Teacher (Rahima Baldwin Dancy), another Waldorf Ed. book which I can't remember the name of offhand (Clouder & Rawson) and a couple of translations of Steiner's writings from Amazon (through the MP link).

I've been having a bit of a 'it's about time I actually read something on education' time - that and the fact that I've applied to do Early Childhood Studies (from Sheffield Uni, but they have a program running at Doncaster college), so thought I'd better get reading.

Plus I'm writing the assignment for the Introducing Childcare Practice course I recently took.

They should all keep me busy for a while!
